To give you some context and insight to this project here are five questions that we asked Mariah Duran. This really lays the groundwork for the whole plan of this piece.

Can you give us a little background as to how this project came to life?

The project really came to life a couple weeks before we actually decided to work on it. Alex, Jeremiah, and I actually attended an art show a couple weeks before the cloud 9 opportunities came up. Whiling attending the art show I met Alex Cole's professor of Photography of UNM named Adrain.

Apparently, she is super big in the photography game across the states, and she already knew about me because Alex has used some of my skate photo’s in her class. Once she officially met me, she went on to tell us that we had to put together some sort of documentary about my story to share with the world.

She knew that Alex and I were really good friends and that he could really help tell my story the right way because he knew me before the world started to know me. Jeremiah has also always mentioned that people should hear my story.

Skip to a couple weeks later the cloud 9 project sparked up, and from there I knew who was going to help me with it.

Why does this project mean so much to you?

This project means a lot to me because I have a solid group of friends using their creative minds and talents to help me bring this project to life.

This group has been here since day one. This opportunity was a test to see if we can truly pull this off starting from scratch. We definitely kept it short and sweet.

What do you hope someone watching this project takes away from it/or reading this article?

I hope this project motivates people to pursue their passion, whatever it may be. And just remember that you get what you put in, the effort is everything.

This all took place in your hometown and you got to film it with your friends, does this change the process or the vibe during the filming process?

Filming this in my hometown with my friends really allowed my creative mindset to kick in. The freedom to show my hometown to the world really excites me because there is a lot of beauty in the here in Albuquerque.

The whole process of filming with friends made it super fun because it allowed it to come off natural and allowed my happiness to come shine in the clips.

If a kid walked up to ask for your advice about skateboarding and you only had one minute to give ‘em your best tip, what would it be?

If I had to give advice on skateboarding I would say, to not let the fear of falling prevent you from trying skating out. The thing about skateboarding is that you are going to fall, that's just part of the game.

It's the process of getting back up and overcoming your fear, that's what really gives you the priceless satisfaction your searching for. Give skateboarding a chance because, in the end, it can teach you so many things about yourself that other things can't.
